Light – assembly & song download

By Andrew Oxspring & Ian Faraday
Ages: 7-11yrs

Running Time

20 Mins Approx

No. Of Songs

1

The assembly begins by considering various sources of light, and how light is important in our daily lives. Following a short lesson about how we see, there is a demonstration of how light can be blocked (forming shadows), or can pass through materials depending on whether they are translucent, transparent or opaque. We move on to look at how light can be reflected and how mirrors are useful in various situations. There follows a short dramatic presentation of the story of Rama and Sita and the origins of Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights. An optional prayer and then the song, ‘Let There be Light’, close the assembly.
